INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A teenager is in custody, charged with another teen's murder.
Metro Police announced on their Twitter feed Wednesday morning they'd arrested 18-year-old Eugene Jones for the Sunday murder of 18-year-old Deante Williams at Wes Montgomery Park.
Jones was arrested on Tuesday evening after turning himself into detectives at IMPD Headquarters, according to an IMPD release. Detectives questioned Jones and arrested him for murder and robbery.
Williams' girlfriend was in a car with him when he was shot around 6:30 p.m. She told her brother and sister-in-law someone came up and shot him at close range.
"They were playing a basketball game and then they lost and they came up to my sister's car and she said they pulled the gun out and that's how it happened," said Jorge Arteago, the older brother of the victim's girlfriend. "They just shot him right there sitting down in the car."
Police, though, said Williams actually had plans to meet Jones in the park that night. When they announced Jones' arrest, they said robbery was the likely motive.
