INDIANAPOLIS โ A 16-year-old was arrested after being accused of illegally possessing firearms and dealing drugs.
In early June 2024, IMPD said officers responded to the 200 block of Hendricks Place, near East Washington and North Rural streets, on reports of shots fired in the backyard of a home.
Once there, police found and collected shell casings in the back of the home and were able to get information on a possible suspect. That suspect information was then given to detectives.
IMPD said Indiana Crime Guns Task Force detectives were able to identify a 16-year-old as the suspect. They later received photos of the teen illegally in possession of a "large number" of firearms.
On June 20, IMPD said ICGTF detectives saw the suspect get out of a vehicle, which was later determined to be stolen, and enter that same home with a firearm "protruding from his waistband and carrying a unique bag."
Authorities surrounded the home and made an announcement for everyone to get out. Police said a woman, three minors and the 16-year-old suspect all exited the home and were detained.
After searching the home, IMPD found 10 firearms, two of which were regulated under the National Firearms Act; 12 grams of suspected crack cocaine; 564 grams of marijuana; 20 suspected narcotic pills; pill presses and other narcotics paraphernalia consistent with dealing and manufacturing illegal narcotics; and almost $5,000 in cash.
The teen was arrested for dangerous possession of a firearm, auto theft and dealing in a controlled substance while armed.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision.
