INDIANAPOLIS — A 21-year-old and 16-year-old are facing several preliminary charges after an armed robbery at a near west Indianapolis gas station.

Around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, IMPD officers responded to the Phillips 66 in the 2500 block of West 10th Street, near North Holmes Avenue, for a report of a business robbery. Officers learned two males had stolen merchandise and shown a gun to the clerk, who was not injured in the incident.

Both suspects ran from the gas station before officers arrived.

Around 10 minutes later, officers investigating a disturbance at an Exxon gas station near West Michigan Street and North Belmont Avenue, less than a mile away, determined the people involved there matched the suspect descriptions from the Phillips 66 robbery.

Both suspects were taken into custody and arrested on preliminary charges of armed robbery, possession of a machine gun and possession of stolen property. Police said the 16-year-old was found with a handgun with a machine gun conversion device.

(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects in cases until formal charges are filed by prosecutors.)

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make final charging decisions in the case.
