INDIANAPOLIS — The 15-year-old accused of shooting another teen outside a high school in Indianapolis was in court Friday.
He's charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting death of 15-year-old Devin Gilbert III, who was shot in front of his mother outside KIPP Indy Legacy High School.
Gilbert's family is set to hold his funeral on Saturday.
His alleged killer had a virtual hearing in juvenile court Friday to learn the charges against him.
His name has not been released because the case is in juvenile court.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office filed a waiver to have the case moved to adult court. A hearing will be held to decide if that will happen. If it does, the public could learn the name of the teenage suspect, along with more details about what led to shooting outside the high school two weeks ago.
According to police, Gilbert was leaving school around 1 p.m. and his mother was walking with him, when the 15-year-old suspect, who does not go to that high school, shot him.
Gilbert's family didn't want to go on camera but told 13News having the suspect charged as an adult is exactly what they want to see happen.
In a text, a family member of Gilbert said they hope for justice and for anyone else that could be involved to be prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law.
