16-year-old killed in northwest Indianapolis shooting; 2nd shooting victim seriously injured

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of West 25th Street, near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 16-year-old was killed and another person was seriously injured in a shooting on the near northwest side of Indianapolis Thursday evening.

The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. April 11 in the 400 block of West 25th Street, just east of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. Officers at the scene found a male lying on the street after he had been shot. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 16-year-old Keith Louis Ray.

A second shooting victim, man, arrived at IU Health Methodist Hospital a short time later. Police said the man was initially in critical condition.

In an update Friday morning, an IMPD spokesperson said the man was in "serious, but stable" condition, and the investigation remains ongoing.

An IMPD spokesperson said detectives believe the two shootings are connected, but it has not been confirmed.

There is no information available about a possible suspect or motive.

Pike Township Schools confirmed to 13News that Ray was a student at Pike High School and that the department is offering professionals trained in grief counseling to help support students and staff cope with the loss.

EDITOR'S NOTE: IMPD initially said the person who died at the scene was an adult male. The Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed the person who died was 16 years old.
