INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police is investigating after one person was injured in a road rage interstate shooting on Indianapolis' west side Sunday evening.
The incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. July 21 in the 6400 block of West 11th Street, near 10th Street and Interstate 465.
Indiana State Police said dispatchers received information about shots fired from one vehicle toward another on I-465 near the 14 mile marker. Moments later, ISP said officers were notified of a possible gunshot victim at a gas station on 10th Street near I-465.
Responding IMPD officers said they connected the gunshot victim with the report of shots fired on I-465. ISP troopers responded to investigate.
An IMPD spokesperson said responding officers located a victim, an 18-year-old man, who had been shot. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
Officers said he was the driver of a gray pickup truck and had one passenger in the truck who was not injured.
ISP determined the victim was driving southbound on I-465 when another driver pulled up next to him and fired "several shots" into the driver's door of the truck.
Investigators said the suspect was driving a gray car and fled the scene after the shooting.
The shooting victim drove to a gas station and called 911 for help. IMPD believes the shooting was a result of a road rage incident.
