'Don't do that' | 16-year-old allegedly warned 18-year-old suspect before deadly Indianapolis shooting

The shooting happened shortly after 3 p.m. on July 30 near West 46th Street and I-465 in Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police say a group of teens were playing with a gun when a 16-year-old was shot in the throat and killed Tuesday afternoon on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Jakari Bibbs, 18, is charged with reckless homicide in the death of Nathaniel Labissiere.

According to court documents, the teens were playing with a handgun in a home in the 4400 block of Braemar Drive, near 46th Street and Interstate 465 around 3 p.m. on July 30.

Witnesses said Bibbs was pointing the gun at friends. One told him to stop, so Bibbs allegedly pointed the gun at Labissiere.

One teen told police that Labissiere grabbed the gun to redirect it.

Bibbs allegedly told police that Labissiere said "don't do that" while laughing.

Bibbs pulled the trigger, shooting Labissiere in the throat.

Bibbs allegedly said he thought he had unloaded the gun before the shooting.

IMPD said detectives identified Bibbs as a person of interest and interviewed him the same day of the shooting. After obtaining a search warrant, IMPD said detectives found a gun and additional evidence where Bibbs was located.

After consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, detectives released Bibbs pending further investigation.
