Man killed in west Indianapolis shooting

The shooting happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Medford Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — One person is dead in a shooting on the near west side of Indianapolis.

The shooting happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Medford Avenue, near W. 16th Street and N. Tibbs Avenue. IMPD officers arrived on scene to find an adult male who had apparently been shot.

The victim died at the scene.

On Friday, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 36-year-old Otis Levert Keller.

Alexis Booker told 13News she was sitting in her car when she heard the gunshots.

"I've been living over here so long, it's normal at this point," she said. "I walked up to my driveway and I looked down here and seen about six, seven patrol cars and then everybody just started coming up and I walked up a little closer and I seen the victim laying on the ground."

Investigators remained on the scene throughout the evening, searching for witnesses to the shooting. Police were also looking for security camera video that may have recorded what happened.

There is no information at this time about a possible suspect or motive in the shooting.

"I don't know. Violence is everywhere nowadays. You can't stop it other than going home and staying put up. That's all I can say," said Booker.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact IMPD Det. Jose Torres at 317-327-3475 or by email at Jose.Torres@indy.gov. Tips can be made anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS.
