INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating a deadly shooting on Indianapolis' southwest side late Wednesday.
According to an IMPD spokesperson, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 11:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of West Wilkins Street, which is near West Washington Street and Interstate 465.
Officers found a man inside an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead, the spokesperson said.
On Thursday, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 23-year-old Devyn Elyjah Phillips.
“It appears to have all occurred in the apartment, but we’re not sure if there were other people involved or not," said Captain Don Weilhammer with IMPD.
Wednesday night police told 13News they had a woman in custody who was a possible witness and was the individual who called 911.
Investigators said that woman didn’t tell officers what led to gunfire.
"We’re not really clear on what happened on this other than the fact that we do have an adult male that is deceased at this time," said Weilhammer.
Police have not shared any additional information on the circumstances of the shooting.
