INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly stabbing that happened Friday night on the city's south side.
An IMPD spokesperson said it happened just before 8 p.m. April 26 in the 200 block of Stephanie Lane, near South Meridian Street and Troy Avenue.
The spokesperson said officers responding to a report of the incident found a man stabbed and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 62-year-old Timothy Adkins.
IMPD said they arrested a person of interest while they were responding who had been preliminarily charged with murder.
On April 29, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office filed a formal murder charge against 40-year-old Damon Wallace Jr.
According to court documents, responding officers found Wallace lying on top of the victim when they arrived, with a knife nearby. Video from a witness showed the attack, according to the documents.
At his initial court hearing, Wallace entered a not guilty plea. He is being held without bond.
Wallace's pretrial conference is scheduled for June 25, with a jury trial tentatively scheduled for July 8.
"Nobody expects a member of their family to be the victim of a homicide," said Chris Adkins, Timothy's brother. "He had a smile as big as this room. That's probably the biggest thing — and his laugh."
