19-year-old found fatally shot inside SUV on Indy's southeast side

Police said the shooting happened in the 1600 block of East Tabor Street, near East Raymond Street and I-65, shortly after 5 p.m.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is asking for the public's help in trying to figure out who shot a man Monday afternoon.

According to investigators, that man was found dead in an SUV on the city's southeast side. Now, police are asking for the public's help to learn who's responsible.

IMPD is hoping video from neighbors' doorbell cameras in the 1600 block of East Tabor Street can help them piece together what happened.

What investigators do know is that just after 5 p.m. on Aug. 14, they got a call for a person shot near Raymond Street and Interstate 65. When they showed up, that person turned out to be a man in the passenger's seat of an SUV.

"We're not sure if that person was shot on the street or at another location and was driven here. That will come out as the investigation continues," said IMPD Ofc. William Young, who explained that the victim had relatives who live on East Tabor Street.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Marvon Rashad Suttle.

Police believe Suttle was shot in the 100 block of Betsy Lane but was then found by police in the passenger's seat of an SUV on Tabor Street.

Police investigate the death of a man found shot in an SUV on East Tabor Street in Indianapolis.

As the investigation unfolded, crime scene tape went up, blocking off parts of East Tabor Street, as neighbors returned home from work only to find out why police cars were in front of their homes.

One resident blamed changes in Indiana law, like being able to own a gun without a permit, for scenes like the one in her neighborhood.

"I want stricter gun restrictions. I want the AKs off the streets," said Lisa Corasaro-Straw, who lives down the street from where police found the man. "Of course, everyone wants the violence to go away, but it's not going to happen overnight. It will never be what it was years ago, but if we could get stricter gun restrictions, it would really be nice to see."

IMPD said they are questioning potential witnesses. So far, they don't have a suspect.

According to an IMPD spokesperson, detectives identified and spoke with the person they believe is responsible for the shooting. After consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, detectives released the person. Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Lottie Patrick at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email Lottie.Patrick@indy.gov. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
