1 dead after shooting in Kokomo home break-in

KOKOMO, Ind. — One person is dead after a fatal shooting during a home invasion.

The Kokomo Police Department is investigating after a man called officers saying he had shot an intruder Sunday evening.

Police responded to the 600 block of East Jackson Street and found a man who had been shot in the front of the house.

The homeowner told police that he was sleeping in his house when he woke up from a 51-year-old man in his living room, according to officials.

The victim tried to get the man to leave his house when he claims he was attacked by the intruder. The homeowner suffered minor injuries from the alleged attacker.

The Howard County Coroner's Office is assisting with the investigation and an autopsy has been scheduled.
