Woman critically wounded in northeast Indianapolis shooting; 32-year-old man arrested

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating a shooting on the northeast side of Indianapolis that left one person in critical condition early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a person shot around 1 a.m. Jan. 6 in the 2900 block of North Euclid Avenue, near Massachusetts Avenue and North Sherman Drive. At the scene, they found a woman wounded with apparent gunshot wounds. 

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Around 6 p.m. Sunday, IMPD announced they had arrested a 32-year-old man for his alleged role in the shooting. He has been preliminarily charged with attempted murder. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decisions.

According to court documents, the woman was found in the bedroom of a home after the man called 911, and the man was detained at the scene. 

The man told officers that he was lying in bed, with a gun he keeps for safety between himself and the woman, when he heard a bang outside and got up to investigate, according to court documents. It was then, the man allegedly told police, that the gun went off, and he claimed he did not intentionally shoot the woman.

According to the documents, the man wasn't able to explain holes in the wall over the headboard of the bed.

IMPD said detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public at this time.
