38-year-old man dies in northeast Indianapolis shooting; 27-year-old suspect charged

INDIANAPOLIS — The victim of a shooting on the northeast side of Indianapolis has died.

The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. July 8 in the 6800 block of Faris Avenue, which is near East 42nd Street and North Shadeland Avenue.

According to IMPD, officers found a victim near the pond of an apartment complex who was reported to be in critical condition from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, a man, died from his injuries.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 38-year-old Dartanian Lamonte Cole.

IMPD arrested 27-year-old Reggie Horton, who is now charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious felon. The charges were filed in order to get the warrant for his arrest. 

At the time of his arrest, Horton was in the Hamilton County Jail for several felony charges unrelated to this incident.
