Man dies after shooting at near east Indy gas station

The shooting was reported around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday near 10th and North Rural streets.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a man died following a shooting on Indianapolis' near east side early Wednesday.

The shooting was reported around 4:30 a.m. July 3 in the 2800 block of East 10th Street, near North Rural Street.

Responding officers located a man in the parking lot who had been shot. He was taken in critical condition to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, an IMPD spokesperson said in an update.

On Friday, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 45-year-old Leon Motley.

Police have not shared additional information on the circumstances of the shooting, but had crime scene tape around a gas station near that intersection.
