INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a delivery driver was killed in a shooting on Indianapolis' near north side late Saturday.
The shooting was reported around 11:45 p.m. April 13 in the 500 block of East 42nd Street, west of College Avenue. Responding officers located a man who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
On April 15, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 53-year-old Adesina David Aderinwoye.
IMPD Captain Mark McCardia told 13News a preliminary investigation showed the man was delivering food to a house when gunfire rang out. A resident of the house heard the shots and found the man with a gunshot wound in a nearby alley.
"I heard voices, then I heard a popping noise," one neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous, told 13News Sunday.
One of the bullets went through the woman's house and struck her stairs. She looked out her window to see a man lying in the street.
Another neighbor on the other side of the alley told 13News the delivery driver was dropping off diapers at her house moments before the shooting.
Both neighbors said the alley between the homes has created constant problems. The situation now has neighbors questioning how and why the shooting happened.
"I've been here for 37 (years), and it's just getting pitiful," one neighbor said. "It's just the people that's down the alley are so rude, and the people that are robbing people, they just don't care anymore."
Neighbors said they're now unsure how to move forward.
"I thought it was quiet and peaceful, but I don't know," one neighbor said. "I hope it doesn't happen again. Because if he was delivering (to) someone over there... I have people coming out delivering stuff. I'm kind of afraid for them now."
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Douglas Swails at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email Douglas.Swails@indy.gov.
