INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Parks is hosting a community open house to receive public input on design concepts for a nature center at the Riverside Adventure Park.

The open house will be held at the Riverside Park Family Center, located at 2420 E. Riverside Drive, on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m.

The design phase is scheduled to take place over the next six months, wrapping up in early 2025.

Park officials said, during the planning process for the Riverside Adventure Park, a nature center was specifically chosen in the park for visitors to use for education, enrichment and an opportunity to connect with nature.

Construction for the first phase of the park started in November 2023 and is scheduled to finish at the end of 2024, with public access starting in early 2025.

Park officials said first phase improvements are currently underway, and include a trail network, nature playground, picnic shelters and improved entryways to the park.

Indy Parks is in the process of getting a $6.8 million grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to fund phase two improvements at the Riverside Adventure Park. There will be an archery range on the northeastern part of the park.

The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis, in partnership with Indy Parks, was also awarded a Nina Mason Pulliam Trust Grant to fund the Schematic Design for the Riverside Adventure Park Nature Center.

Parks officials said the Schematic Design will take place over six months and end in early 2025.

Indy Parks has been developing the Riverside Adventure Park since 2017.
