Mexican-owned ice cream shop brings authentic cuisine to Indy

What began with family gatherings quickly turned into a menu full of authentic Mexico City cuisine.

INDIANAPOLIS — A meal can often signify much more than food, especially when that meal is a sweet treat.

At Paradise Mx in Indianapolis, the dessert shop is more about family.

"We love to bring a little bit of our culture into the community," said Genesis Estrada, an employee at Paradise Mx.

It's a Mexican-owned shop that opened in 2023.

"One of the owners, she is very big on crepes and sweets," said Estrada. "She has always had her dream of sharing her taste with others."

Estrada said what started as family gatherings quickly turned into a menu full of authentic cuisine from Mexico City. It's a menu that is both sweet and savory, with more than 40 options up for grabs.

"Well, we do like a bit of spicy within our treats," Estrada said. "We like Tamarindo, which is Tamarind."

Estrada said her personal favorite item on the menu is the Ultimate Waffle.

Now, however, Paradise Mx offers "deals of the day" to get customers to try new foods.

"We wouldn't want to feed anyone what we wouldn't feed our family," Estrada said. "So that, to me, is great to have that kind of desire to do things the right way."

Estrada said she's proud to help bring family-owned food and authentic Mexican cuisine to central Indiana.

"Some of us haven't seen family members from home in over a decade," she said, "so it's important to kind of have that piece of home here."

Paradise Mx is open seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 7045 Emblem Drive in Indianapolis.
