INDIANAPOLIS — Runners geared up Friday to run in the OneAmerica 500 Fesitval Mini-Marathon Saturday morning. They stopped at the Indiana Convention Center to grab everything they needed for the race and to check out their competition.
"I think I'm going to get a better time than both of my parents and my brother," runner Landon Bell said.
The Mini is just the beginning of the excitement going on in Indianapolis this month.
"The month of May is just awesome. There's so much going on in the city right now," runner Zach Foley said.
In addition to the Mini-Marathon, the May schedule includes the Indiana Pacers in the playoffs, the Indiana Fever's season getting underway with No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark and, of course, the Indianapolis 500 on May 26.
"I just consider Indianapolis as the event city. It brings everyone together. Everybody considers it 'Naptown,' but I sincerely believe it's not Naptown because there's always so much in the city," Foley said.
The Fever and its young roster are bringing in new fans.
"The fact we have Caitlin Clark here now, I plan on going to some Fever games now, and it's bringing a lot of energy and excitement to the city," Foley said.
One thing is clear, there's something for everyone here in the Circle City.
"I think it says Indianapolis is a hub. It's a place people want to come and be a part of and experience the life and the thrill. We got 'The Racers and the Pacers,' and it's just going to continue to grow," runner Paul Bickel said.
