INDIANAPOLIS — The One America 500 Festival Indianapolis Mini-Marathon is Saturday, May 4, and 13News is introducing you to some of this year's runners.
Jamicka Edwards is an avid runner, Army veteran and a ball of energy.
She just finished her first Boston Marathon, and now, 2024 will be Edwards’ seventh year in a row running the Indy Mini.
She moved to Washington, D.C. for a job, but she doesn't miss a Mini-Marathon. She said May can't come soon enough.
“It's the track. It's the people. It's the crowd support. Indy goes all out. This is May. I just got chills saying it, thinking about it,” Edwards said.
“People see my pictures, but you need to come. Only runners will have the opportunity to go around the 500 Speedway track. Otherwise, you only see it in the movies, on TV. To be able to run it as a runner is just incredible," Edwards said. "It won't get old to me. As long as I'll be able to run, I'll always come back to Indy for that race.”
Edwards said she's recruited about 100 runners to participate in the Indy Mini over the years.
She's never been to the Indianapolis 500 before, but her next goal is to return to Indy for the race.
