500 Festival opens registration for virtual challenges

Participants can now sign up for the Indianapolis 500 Mile and Gasoline Alley 250 Mile challenges, which promote keeping active beyond the month of May.

INDIANAPOLIS — Registration is open for a virtual fitness challenge to benefit the 500 Festival.

Participants can now sign up for the Indianapolis 500 Mile and Gasoline Alley 250 Mile challenges, which promote staying active beyond the month of May. The challenges run from June 12 through Oct. 31, with 500-mile and 250-mile goals available.

Once registered, participants can record miles by "running, walking, rolling, swimming, cycling, attending fitness classes, and engaging in various other activities," to reach their goal. 

Participants will receive:

  • Challenge-specific participant shirt, finisher medal and hat
  • One-of-a-kind challenge sticker
  • Customizable and printable PDF challenge bib and finisher certificate
  • Virtual badges
  • Invitation to a participant-only private Facebook group
  • The first 500 registered participants for the Indianapolis 500 Mile Challenge will receive a one-of-a-kind First 500 shirt.

Registration is $65 and ends June 28, 2024. Funds raised will go toward the 500 Festival's free education, health and leadership development programs.
