500 Festival event vehicles have Indiana roots

The lineup of iconic vehicles includes SUVs and trucks.

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — We're just 53 days away from the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

On Tuesday, we got a glimpse of some of the icons of the month of May, the 500 Festival event cars.

And this year, they're not just cars, but also SUVs and trucks. Over the next few weeks, you'll likely see them on streets around the city.

The design for this year's event vehicles was unveiled by IMS president Doug Boles.

These vehicles have Indiana roots of their own. They were actually built by at the Fort Wayne Assembly Plant.

"I encourage people, if they see these vehicles around at a gas station, a grocery store, stop and talk to those folks people that are driving them," Boles said. "If you see me, ask me. I'd love to put your kids in the driver's seat, let them see what the cars are like. That's part of the fun, letting people interact with the Indianapolis 500 brand through these amazing vehicles."

The 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 26.
