For nearly three decades, Hoosiers relied on Bob Gregory to get them through the best and worst of Indiana weather. Bob anchored "SkyTrak Weather" weeknights at 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m.,10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on channel 13 Eyewitness News before "semi-retiring" after 28 years in December, 2000.
Bob's work has earned the American Meteorology Society's Seal of Approval. He has been awarded Indiana's Sagamore of the Wabash by two governors. He was selected as a member of the Hall of Fame by the Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters and the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers. In 2000 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indianapolis Chapter of Women in Communications. In 2005 the Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) honored Bob with its Silver Circle Award.
Bob is known for his hilarious on-air-crack-ups, but when the weather turned severe, Bob's forecast literally saved lives. When the Blizzard of '78 struck, Bob was on the air all night keep viewers updated. He has covered central Indiana's worst weather, including the "Super Outbreak" of tornadoes in April, 1974.
Bob hosted the "Brain Game" for 28 years, a high school quiz show promoting the values and benefits of a solid education. He is also the spokesperson for "Bob Gregory's Coats for Kids," a campaign that has provided about 170,000 coats free to kids since 1986.
His broadcasting career started at WGEZ Radio is his hometown of Beloit, Wis. Then in 1961 his television career began at WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois. There were stops in Peoria, Illinois and Albany, NY, before coming to WTHR-TV in 1972.
Bob has two sons, Robert Jr., a manager in Flight Operations for United Airlines in Chicago and Kevin, chief meteorologist for WRTV6 in Indianapolis.
