Morgan County, April 10 - Police are confident they have the man that murdered Jill Behrman. He's at the Morgan County Jail.
Prosecutors, police and the Behrman family announced that a grand jury indicted 30-year-old John Robert Myers of Elletsville. He was arrested Sunday night at his home, charged with one count of murder.
Evidence from a grand jury has not been made public, but we know he became a person of interest in December of 2004. That's when the case turned. Witnesses at the time came forward.
Police don't believe Myers knew Behrman, but they believe he killed her in Morgan County in 2000. Her remains were found in 2003.
It has been a long road to this day for the Behrman family. They are very pleased about the indictment, which they says is the first step toward justice for Jill.
Eric Behrman thinks, "We constantly, all as a group and all the investigators and everybody, it has become an issue that a lot of people have wanted to see justice for. This is an important day for all of us and this is what we want to see."
Even though the indictment has come forward, this isn't over. They're still looking for an anonymous caller that saw a red car on the day Jill disappeared in that area. They're still waiting for information on that.
They say they do have a red car belonging to Myers in custody, but they would like to hear from that caller to link those two.
Obviously it's a huge day for the Behrman family.
Police say one witness came forward and pointed them in the direction of Myers. They've had a lot of leads in this case that haven't panned out. They won't release the details of the testimony from the grand jury that lays out the evidence and how they came to find Myers. We do know they've been considering him a pretty strong suspect for about two years.
It could be a trial that gives us more information.
