INDIANAPOLIS — Travel Tuesday is supposed to be a day full of travel promotions on hotels, cruises and flights.
One reason for the deals: the winter and early spring are a quiet time for travel.
The holidays are over, and people are often left staring at some big bills.
So, there is an opportunity for you to save some money if you are flexible with a fresh pot of paid time off.
Hilton Hotels, for example, is offering 20% off certain rooms with exclusions. Marriott is offering 25% off on weekend stays through Jan. 20 at over 7,000 participating hotels and resorts. World of Hyatt members can see up to 25% off at over 800 participating hotels.
Celebrity Cruises is buy one, get a guest 75% off.
Southwest Airlines is offering up to 30% off base domestic fares on trips happening in January, February and March.
If you already booked a Southwest trip during that time frame, check the prices anyway.
If it is cheaper now, ask them to rebook you at the lower price and issue you a flight credit.
Katy Nastro with Going said with all of these discounts, it is going to be limited availability.
"Yes, you want to be 100% sure of what you are buying, but also you want to act quickly if you do see something," Nastro said.
She added that consumers have the 24-hour flight cancellation rule in place if you miss any small print.
As you are reading the deal terms and conditions, hit the "Ctrl" and "F" buttons on your keyboard at the same time to open the search function. Then, lookup the words and phrases including blackout dates, select dates, refundable and departure just in case you can only leave certain dates a week.
That way your bargain does not turn into a bust.
