INDIANAPOLIS — How much does it cost to make ends meet in Indiana?
Turns out, there's a tool to tell us.
In order to get by, single Hoosiers need to make just under $28,000 before taxes.
That's according to MIT's Living Wage Calculator.
Here's what a monthly budget looks like for a person making this kind of money:
For food, it's $270. Housing is $589. Transportation is $429, and things like entertainment, education or pets is $163 a month.
According to 2019 Census information, Indiana's median household income is $57,600. That means half of Hoosier residents earn more, half earn less.
