Flying soon? Price differences between ridesharing, airport parking and an offsite option

Is it cheaper to take an Uber there, or park at IND? What about an offsite lot?

INDIANAPOLIS — Taking to the skies also means you have to hit the road.

You might be wondering: Is it cheaper to take an Uber there, or park? What about an offsite lot?

For a three-day weekend Friday morning to Sunday evening, Uber estimates a nearly 40-mile ride from Fishers to the airport is $42. If your return trip is the same price, it is $84 roundtrip – plus tip – for the rideshare option.

To park in the airport's cheapest lot, Economy, it's $9 a day. That adds up to $27 total plus tax for three days.

At the Fast Park down the road from the airport, it is just over $9 a day to park, plus a $5 fee if you fail to register for their free rewards program. If you add a AAA or another other discount, the price could drop to around $8 per day.

Fast Park also offer online reservations that guarantee parking accommodations, even during peak travel periods.

If you are confused why the shuttle lot is about the same price as the airport, the Fast Park lot is covered, and the free shuttle drops you off at your car. At the airport, you are dropped off at one of their shelters.

To get a covered parking spot at the airport, it is now $23 a day.

“We took a number of market factors into consideration before coming to this decision and worked to ensure any increase was conservative, balanced and a value-add for travelers,” Keith Berlen, Indianapolis Airport Authority senior director of operations and public safety, said in a statement.
