INDIANAPOLIS — December into January is traditionally the most expensive three weeks to travel of the entire year.
But what goes up, must come down.
Katy Nastro with Scott's Cheap Flights said between January and February is the least expensive time to travel. "You can see deals up to 80% off," Nastro.
That's because demand dies down.
"People are done with the winter holidays, they've gone to their destinations, they're getting back to work, kids are back in school, and travel is just not top of mind," Nastro said.
Low airfares out of Indianapolis from Saturday, Jan. 7 to Wednesday, Jan. 11 include:
- Round-trip, direct flight to Key West on Allegiant for $84
- Round trip, direct flight to Fort Lauderdale on Spirit for $88
- Roundtrip, direct flight to New York City on Spirit for $54
Keep in mind with budget airlines, you'll need to pay a fee for a carry-on and checked bags, along with seat selection.
To search for flights based on a date and not a destination, use Google Flights Explore. Select the departure city, price range and Explore will show you what's available.
To search airfare based on price but not provide a date, plug in a route on the airline's site and click "calendar view." That way you can see if the price drops by simply changing the days you might be ready to travel.
If you change your mind shortly after booking, you have 24 hours to cancel with no issues under law.
