INDIANAPOLIS — Once the Thanksgiving turkey is off the table and the dishes are cleared, many family gatherings turn to football on TV or board games.
If you’re struggling to think of ways to keep your family entertained during Thanksgiving and Christmas break, Cherie Lowe, the Queen of Free, suggested a few of her family’s favorites this week on 13Sunrise and in her blog. She also shared how you can save some money playing games and entertaining.
"If you’re purchasing a new game or puzzle for the holiday season, be sure to check your favorite store’s coupon app," she said. "Many offer a toy and game coupon at this time of the year."
You can have guests bring a game or puzzle for a game swap. "Post on your social media platforms and ask if anyone has a game or puzzle to borrow," said Lowe. And don't be afraid to break out a vintage game from the closet, either.
"Local libraries are also a fantastic place to look for a puzzle or game to check out," Lowe said.
Queen's favorites
- Spot It – Ranges from 2-8 players and is "fantastic for ages 6 and up." Cost: $10.
- Phase 10 – "I grew up on this game with extended family and we still play," Lowe said. It's now in its 40th Anniversary edition.
- Ticket to Ride – "I just learned how to play this one and I love it!" said Lowe. But it does take a little longer to play.
