INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Some supermarkets are relaxing guidelines in the express checkout lane.
Supermarket chains, including Kroger, have added the word "about" to their express lanes. So rather than stating "15 items or less," the signs now say "about 15 items.
But the reason might not be for customer convenience. Instead, supermarkets want to increase how much you buy. By placing a limit on the number of items allowed in line, stores think customers running in and out of the store may not be able to buy everything they need to be eligible to use the express lane.
