New $115 million manufacturing facility coming to Crawfordsville

The plant will employ 200 people to build structures for utilities.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind — A new $115 million manufacturing facility is coming to Crawfordsville and bringing 200 jobs with it.

Nucor Corporation announced the new project on Wednesday. The plant will be part of the company's Towers & Structures business unit, building structures for utilities. It will be built next to the existing Nucor steel mill in Crawfordsville.

Nucor is based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. The company announced expansion plans in February, with a facility being built in Decatur, Alabama. The new Crawfordsville facility is the second phase of that expansion.

In a statement, Nucor CEO Leon Topalian said the new plant would help the company "meet the growing demand for utility infrastructure from renewable energy projects, EV charging network expansion and grid hardening."

Nucor says the facility in Crawfordsville will be highly automated. The company has been doing business in Indiana since 1972 and has more than 2,500 teammates working across the state.

Nucor says federal and state investments in renewable energy and infrastructure have helped the company expand its production and services.
