FISHERS, Ind. — The Humane Society for Hamilton County helped over 100 pets find forever homes over the weekend.
The shelter announced that it had adopted out 103 cats and dogs as a part of their "Clear the Shelters" event on Saturday, Aug. 24. The event was such a success that it was extended into Sunday, where a total of 139 pets have now been adopted.
During the event, adoptions were just $10 (with some exclusions) and included a free one-month supply of preventatives, spay/neuter services, a microchip, one round of age-appropriate vaccinations/deworming, a wellness exam at a participating veterinarian and a starter bag of food.
The shelter held the event due to severe overcrowding. More than 600 cats and dogs were at the shelter, and some risked euthanasia.
After a successful weekend, the $10 adoptions will again be held from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at 10501 Hague Road in Fishers.
The shelter says Pinecone and Elva are two of the last nine pets at risk of euthanasia who still need to find forever homes.
