Pat Sullivan's tips for how to get the most out of your springtime garden

Pat Sullivan of Sullivan Hardware & Garden is sharing his tips for how to raise beautiful springtime flowers.

INDIANAPOLIS — Temperatures in central Indiana are starting to warm up, meaning spring is almost here.

Pat Sullivan with Sullivan Hardware and Garden has tips for how you can make the most out of your spring fever and plant some beautiful flowers in your garden.

Here is some of Pat's best advice for springtime gardening:

  • Bulb flowers can survive short periods of cold temperatures, but freezing temperatures will necessitate a heat source.
  • Oil spray smothers eggs and disease on your plants to help prevent pests. However, the temperature can only be freezing for 24 hours fir the spray to be effective.
  • A "frost cloth" is a good investment to help protect plants from frost. Frost can occur even if temperatures are above freezing.
  • Frost doesn't kill a plant, but it will hurt the plant's color.
