Pat Sullivan's tips for keeping fruit flies away from your kitchen

Pat joins 13Sunrise every Sunday to share tips on how you can better maintain the things around your house.

INDIANAPOLIS — Now is prime time for many people in Indiana to bring fresh fruits and vegetables from their gardens or farmers markets into their homes.

But those items, if left too long on the counter, will attract pesky fruit flies.

Pat Sullivan, from Sullivan Hardware and Garden, is making sure your kitchen is clear of fruit flies.

Here's a few tips he shared:

  • Watch any fruits that could be overripen. Once it is, throw it out.
  • Buy fruit fly traps and keep a few of them around.
  • If you have drain flies, take duct tape and put it over your drain overnight. This will catch the flies.
