'Festival of Trees' opens Friday at Indiana Historical Society

No matter what holiday you celebrate, the Festival of Trees has something to offer everyone.

INDIANAPOLIS — Some popular holiday traditions are starting up around central Indiana, including the "Festival of Trees" at the Indiana Historical Society, which opens on Friday, Nov. 10.

This year, there are 78 trees to view, all with unique decorations. From trees trimmed with basketballs to ones that reach the ceiling, the decorated trees span four floors of the Indiana Historical Society.

No matter what holiday you celebrate, the Festival of Trees has something to offer everyone.

"Really, it's all about the holiday tradition. Coming back home to Indiana, being with your family and friends and celebrating our shared history and culture together here," Indiana Historical Society President Jody Blankenship said.

While taking in the beautiful trees, visitors have the chance to vote on their favorite. Special events include an author fair on Dec. 2, an ugly sweater party on Dec. 8 and dance performances from "The Nutcracker" on Dec. 16.

The Festival of Trees is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Twilight Tuesdays will offer an after-hours experience from 5–8 p.m. for anyone who wants to see the trees by night. Twilight Tuesdays are Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, 12 and 19.
