INDIANAPOLIS — Next time you're looking to add a bag of cheesy Doritos chips to your grocery cart, maybe swing by the alcohol aisle instead.
Frito-Lay announced the release of a distilled spirit called Empirical x Doritos Nacho Cheese Spirit, which they claim tastes like real Doritos in alcohol form.
"The spirit opens with umami and tangy aromas of nacho cheese, moving to the deeper, corn-forward flavors of the chip to finish on a soft salty note," Frito-Lay said in a statement announcing the beverage.
The drink can be added to a margarita, Bloody Mary, Old Fashioned, neat or even over ice for the truly chip-obsessed among us.
It's not clear what specific type of alcohol it is, as both Empirical and Frito-Lay only described the drink as a clear, savory nacho cheese alcohol.
"Empirical is an 'uncategorized' spirits company, so it allows us the freedom to experiment with really interesting flavors and not have to be stuck in a gin box or tequila box or whiskey box," said Lars Williams, chef/distiller & CEO of Empirical.
Limited-edition bottles of Empirical x Doritos Nacho Cheese Spirit — containing 42% ABV, 750ml —will be available next month for a suggested retail price of $65 online, as well as in select New York and California markets.
Pre-orders began Wednesday, Dec. 13 at doritos.x.empirical.co.
No word yet from either company if the Cool Ranch flavor could be coming next.
