INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Zoo will kick off its holiday season celebrations with the return of "Christmas at the Zoo" beginning Saturday, Nov. 23.

The holiday tradition will stay open through Jan. 5.

The zoo opens at 2 p.m., and Christmas at the Zoo activities go from 5-9 p.m. — extended until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

New this year, guests will have the opportunity to take a personal journey to the North Pole with Santa’s Magic Cottage. This includes visiting with Mrs. Claus and elves guiding you to Santa to tell him your wishes.

Animals will also be out enjoying the cooler weather, including Arctic foxes, tigers, brown bears, red pandas, sea lions and seals.

On two select nights, Dec. 3 and 10, Christmas at the Zoo will be a low sensory experience with alterations to sound, smell and lighting. More information on those nights can be found here.

The light displays at the event were nominated for USA Today's "10 Best Zoo Lights" contest. You can vote for "Christmas at the Zoo" as your favorite light show here until Dec. 2.

Christmas at the Zoo is free for zoo members and included with regular admission. For more on ticket information, click here.
