Meet Kevin: The Guinness World Records tallest dog that lives in Iowa

The Great Dane stands at 3'2" on all fours, more or less the height of a 3-year-old child.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — On average, a Great Dane stands at around 2'6" to the withers, also known as the shoulders of the dog.

Kevin the Great Dane on the other hand, whose name comes from the popular movie Home Alone, stands tall at 3'2". That's around the height of an average 3-year-old.

Kevin was officially named the tallest dog in the world by Guinness World Records.

Last year, the previous tallest dog in the world, Zeus, passed away after a leg amputation. Zeus stood at 3'5", only three inches taller than Kevin. Kevin lives in West Des Moines alongside Tracy and Roger Wolfe as well as their kids, 12-year-old Alexander and 10-year-old Ava.

Kevin is far from the only animal in the house, however, sharing the space with three dogs, four cats and even goats, chickens and horses.

While Kevin's size may be intimidating for some, his owners describe him as a "gentle giant." Apart from his love of snuggles and napping on the couch, he also is terrified of the vacuum cleaner.

"Kevin is the epitome of a 'gentle giant,'" Tracy said to Guinness. "In fact, he is scared of most things."

Tracy works at a veterinary clinic, and has pondered the idea that Kevin doesn't fully grasp just how big he is. Kevin is so big, that the baby gate in the door of Tracy's office doesn't stop him, as he's able to simply walk right over it!

"Kevin is hilarious. He will be in there and stay whenever I am in there. However, if I leave, he just steps right over the baby gate like it's nothing!" Tracy said.

The family adopted Kevin while he was a puppy after losing their previous beloved dog Cora, who was also a Great Dane.

"As a puppy, we just kept thinking 'he just keeps growing and growing," Tracy recalled. "He's the tallest dog I've ever seen, and to actually have that distinction is really exciting for the family."
