WESTFIELD, Ind. — A horse is in stable condition after falling into an old well in Westfield on Monday.
The horse named Eva managed to get out of her stall, walked over to a well and fell in when the protective cover couldn't sustain her weight, the Westfield Fire Department said on social media Dec. 11.
"Earlier today, 'C' shift crew members worked with several agencies to develop and execute a large animal rescue," the department said after the rescue.
Several photos show a team of workers using a large crane to hoist Eva from the well and back to safety.
Local veterinarians were also on hand to assist in the rescue, which was praised on social media.
"Thank goodness for the animal loving FC we have in HamCo," one user commented.
The "sweet and curious" horse has a few scrapes and bruises, but she is expected to make a full recovery, the fire department said.
