BARGERSVILLE, Ind. — Firefighters in Johnson County came to the rescue of a cat that had gotten stuck in a precarious position next to a Bargersville home.
Crews from the Bargersville Fire Department took a call from Johnson County Community Cats Wednesday about the cat, which was wedged in a small space between the foundation of a house and a patio. The feline was stuck between concrete and bricks for about six days.
Firefighters were able to break away concrete to get to the cat, who was in good condition when she was finally freed.
Johnson County Community Cats, the county's only cat-specific rescue and "Trap-Neuter-Return" program is working to find the feline's owner. The volunteer-run nonprofit said the cat was "a bit skinny, dehydrated and scared" but was in good health overall. A veterinarian is consulting the group in how to best nurse the cat back to full health.
"She is safe, warm, and has everything she needs," the group wrote in a Facebook post.
The cat was not microchipped.
"We cannot thank Bargersville Fire Department enough for their quick response, their dedication, and their compassion. They are the heroes of the day so please show them all the love. There’s absolutely no words for how grateful we are to them," the organization wrote.
The group, which is run solely on donations, is also working to have the concrete repaired for the homeowners where the cat was found.
Anyone who may know who the cat belongs to is asked to call Johnson County Community Cats at 317-914-4211.
