NEW ORLEANS (WTHR) - A new Orleans man whose father passed away from coronavirus was sworn into the city's police department while wearing his father's badge.

Mark Hall Jr. could not attend his training academy graduation because of his father's passing on April 30, according to WDSU. So instead, his mother pinned her late husband’s badge on him as he was sworn into the department.

The New Orleans Police Department said Hall was "undeterred by the tragic loss.” And he still passed his final exam.

Mark Hall Jr.'s father worked with NOPD for over 30 years before he died from the virus.

Now his son will carry on the legacy of service.
