GLASTONBURY, UK — Michael J. Fox surprised music fans at a festival in England over the weekend.
Fox appeared on stage with Coldplay at the Glastonbury Festival on Saturday, June 29, TODAY reported.
The band's frontman, Chris Martin, performed an ode to Fox as a camera showed the "Back to the Future" star backstage, holding a guitar. As the crowd erupted, Martin introduced the actor.
"Here's another legendary Michael," Martin said. "One who just totally rocks. With his Chuck Berry riff, and the way he punched Biff, ladies and gentleman, please welcome Michael J. Fox."
Fox joined the band in a performance of their hit song "Fix You," performing a duet with Martin for part of the song.
Following the song, Martin again paid tribute to Fox, calling him one of the band's heroes.
“Thank you so much everybody, and especially, thank you to the main reason why we’re in a band, because of watching ‘Back to the Future,’” Martin said. “So thank you to our hero forever, and one of the most amazing people on earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thanks so much, Michael.”
Fox paid tribute to Coldplay Sunday on Instagram, writing, "There is a time for every band and a band for every time. This is @coldplay’s time."
It's not the first time Fox joined the band on stage.
In 2013, they performed together at a New York City benefit for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and in 2016, the actor walked on stage to perform two hits from "Back to the Future" – "Earth Angel" and "Johnny B. Goode" – with Coldplay during a concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at the age of 29 in 1991. He shared his diagnosis with the public seven years later.
He got a standing ovation in February while presenting the award for best picture at the British Academy Film Awards.
Fox's foundation has raised more than $2 billion for research since it launched in 2000.
