'Silo' cast, creator preview 2nd season of sci-fi dystopian drama

New episodes of "Silo," starring Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Tim Robbins and Harriet Walter, are released Fridays through Jan. 17 on Apple TV+.

INDIANAPOLIS — (NOTE: The story below contains spoilers from the first season of "Silo.")

Apple TV+'s sci-fi dystopian drama, "Silo," is back for a second season.

"At the end of Season 1, our dear hero, Juliette, is being sent out to clean — if you don't know what that is, watch Season 1," said showrunner, executive producer and writer Graham Yost ("Justified," "The Americans"). "She's being sent out to her death, but she doesn't die. She walks over the hill and finds out the silo she's grown up in is one of many silos."

"In Season 2, all that energy you got in Season 1 of feeling pressed, that energy is heightened. From the beginning, you feel that pressure, and it really doesn't let up throughout the season," said Grammy and Oscar winner Common ("Selma," "John Wick: Chapter 2"), who plays Robert Sims, the head of security in the silo.

Golden Globe nominee Rebecca Ferguson ("The Greatest Showman," "Dune") is the heroine trying to determine if the regulations put in place are truly meant to protect or control them.

"She's absolutely brilliant to work with. The energy she brings and the way she conducts herself – she's so about the work, and she loves pulling the script apart and delving into the characters – that energy just filters down to the whole cast," said Remmie Milner ("His Dark Materials," "A Christmas Carol"), who plays Shirley Campbell, one of Juliette's closest friends.

As thousands of people live in the silo, this gives the ensemble cast plenty of opportunity to shine in supporting character arcs.

"It's been such a joy doing this show. The writing's fantastic, the team they've assembled are great, the actors are fantastic. It's been a joy," said Oscar winner Tim Robbins ("Mystic River," "The Shawshank Redemption"), who plays Bernard Holland, the head of the IT department in the silo.

In the first season, electrical engineer Martha Walker, played by Emmy nominee Harriet Walter ("Succession," "Ted Lasso"), overcomes a decades-long fear of going outside of her room.

"She breaks out because of her motivation to save Juliette. It forces her to re-meet her lover of several years ago, Carla (Clare Perkins)," Walter said.

A new addition to the second season is Emmy nominee Steve Zahn ("The White Lotus," "Dallas Buyers Club").

"(Steve) became the mystery of the season. What's his story? Because he says it's one thing, but it feels there's some things that don't add up. He's just an amazing performer," Yost said.
