'My Lady Jane' stars discuss rewriting history in TV series

All eight episodes of "My Lady Jane" are now streaming on Prime Video.

INDIANAPOLIS — If you thought you knew the story of Lady Jane Grey, think again.

In the 1500s, Lady Jane Grey became the Queen of England for nine days before Mary I was then proclaimed queen, who was the half-sister of the late Edward VI.

However, none of that matters in "My Lady Jane," which reimagines Grey's story.

"We're telling the story of one of history's most tragic female figures, and we're throwing out the bits we don't like and taking the bits we do and giving her a chance to have a better future," said Emily Bader ("Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin," "Fresh Kills"), who stars as the title character.

Anna Chancellor ("What a Girl Wants," "Four Weddings and a Funeral") plays Grey's mother, whom has a strained relationship with her daughter.

"It's like a whole new genre of costume drama, and it's very exciting," Chancellor said. "In a way, with our show, it's obviously 'romantacy,' and yet somehow, there is a kind of accuracy and believability to it."

Bader isn't taking this major breakthrough role on a major streaming service for granted.

"It's a dream. We've been going, going, going, and I'm sure the second this show comes out and I have a second to breathe, I'm going to cry and fall on the floor," Bader said. "I was such a big fan of this genre. 'Pride & Prejudice' is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I don't think I ever could've fathomed getting to work on something like this."
