INDIANAPOLIS — We know them best as Steve Harrington in "Stranger Things" and Kamala Nandiwadal in "Never Have I Ever," but the next roles for actors Joe Keery and Richa Moorjani put them in the "Fargo" universe.
The fifth season of the FX black comedy/crime drama, set in 2019, sees a sheriff (Jon Hamm) searching for a woman (Juno Temple), who is not the Midwestern housewife she appears to be.
"It's a return to the original source material," said Keery, referencing the 1996 Oscar-winning Coen brothers film, on this season's darkly comedic tones. His character, Gator Tillman, is the son of the sheriff who does everything he can to make his father proud.
As for Moorjani, she is the first woman of color and south Asian woman to play a cop in the world of "Fargo."
"It's extremely exciting for me and for many people in my community," Moorjani said of her character, Minnesota Police Deputy Indira Olmstead. "She has a certain fierceness about her that is unique to her character in relation to the other cop characters."
And for those who are longtime fans of the film and TV series, you can certainly expect references to past installments.
"Definitely, so many. The first scene I'm in, for sure. Yeah, there's a lot," Moorjani said.
The first two episodes of the fifth season of "Fargo" air Tuesday, Nov. 21 on FX and stream the following day on Hulu.
