INDIANAPOLIS — We're less than 24 hours away from a premiere screening of a new Indiana film attracting a global audience.
It's called "Disciples in the Moonlight."
The story is set in the "not-too-distant future," when the Bible is illegal. It follows an Indiana group that tries to smuggle the Bible into underground churches.
The film landed an out-of-competition screening at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France next week. Hoosier Brett Varvel is the director, producer and star.
Varvel said the film offers a message of hope.
"We're living in a day and age where there's a lot of darkness around us, and these movies bring lights into people's hearts and hope at a time when we desperately need it," Varvel said.
The "Disciples in the Moonlight" private premiere will be held Thursday night at the Living Room Theaters at Bottleworks District.
You can still grab a ticket for early-release shows in Danville this weekend.
The film, which was shot entirely in Hendricks County, is set for a nationwide release in July.
