INDIANAPOLIS — In 2010, a 10-year-old girl showcased her talent of singing opera on "America's Got Talent," and the rest is history.
Jackie Evancho was the runner-up in the talent competition's fifth season — with many viewers thinking she should've won.
"I remember actually being frustrated because I had (auditioned) two times before in-person, and it didn't work out, I guess. I finally did the YouTube one where you submit a video, which was really cool because I finally got in. Frustrated but excited," Evancho said. "What I never expected was after 'AGT,' my whole world was going to change. I just thought it was just going to go right back to playing with ducks in the backyard."
In 2019, Evancho returned to "America's Got Talent" to compete against the best of the best in "America's Got Talent: The Champions."
"It was very surreal. It was kind of nostalgic," Evancho said. It took me back to whenever I was first on, and it was kind of emotional for me, but it was a great time."
Now 24 years old, Evancho is releasing her new EP, titled "Solla" — and it's a new genre of music for her.
"I just decided after COVID that I can't keep being the 10-year-old me, now that I'm 24," Evancho said. "I felt like it was time for me to really embrace who I've become through the years and not let fear stop me from that. I was always very afraid that if people saw who I really was now, that I would lose everything I'd worked so hard for."
In addition to the new music, Evancho is showcasing more artistic talents.
"There's also going to be some really cool art pieces that I personally did because as another part of this journey, I've been showing people my paintings and my drawings as well," Evancho said.
"Solla" is now available to buy or stream on all music platforms.
