Artifacts from Irsay collection to go on display at IU Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Musical artifacts from The Jim Irsay Collection, including items from the Beatles and Johnny Cash, will soon be on display at Indiana University Bloomington.

Amped at IU, a collaborative exhibition with IU Collections, will "celebrate music and share pieces from Irsay's world-renowned guitar collection," the Colts said in a statement.

The exhibition will be housed in the  McCalla building on the IU Bloomington campus through September 2025.

As part of a Sept. 27 kickoff event for the exhibition during IU Family Weekend, there will be a one-day exhibition of guitars owned and played by Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Prince, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and other famous musicians.

There will also be performances from students with the IU Jacobs School of Music and guided tours during the kickoff event.

The yearlong exhibition will feature artifacts from The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly and many others.

The Colts owner's collection of guitars was highlighted as "The Greatest Guitars on Earth" by Guitar Magazine in 2022.
