INDIANAPOLIS — Over the past 10 years, Alan Tudyk has voiced many iconic Disney characters, including Heihei in "Moana," King Candy in "Wreck-It Ralph" and the Duke of Weselton in "Frozen." He's now voicing arguably his biggest role in a Disney film: a goat sidekick named Valentino in "Wish."
The 95-minute animated film follows Asha (voiced by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose), who makes a powerful wish upon a star to help save her kingdom.
"He wears very cute, little, yellow pajamas, so he's very cute, and he's small, and he's a hard-headed little guy," Tudyk said of his character. "He's got this great lower-register voice. He'll do anything for Asha and anything to help the town."
It would be no surprise if Walt Disney Pictures had Tudyk on speed-dial at this point, and he admittedly can't stop saying "yes" to these roles.
"They're great. I really like the end product. The process is fun too, but it's so much fun to see it completed," Tudyk said.
Along with DeBose and Tudyk, the film's voice cast includes Chris Pine, Harvey Guillén, Stephanie Cabral, Evan Peters, Natasha Rothwell, Ramy Youssef and Victor Garber — but the process of filming an animated movie is much different.
"The process is odd because I didn't actually work with them," Tudyk said. "It's just you and the directors, and you're tossing around ideas and different lines and recording different scenes. It goes on a very long time. It's always evolving, a very organic process."
"Wish" opens in theaters nationwide Wednesday, Nov. 22.
