Heartland International Film Festival wraps up

Seven of the screened movies were Indiana Spotlight films.

INDIANAPOLIS — After eleven days and 120 films, the Heartland International Film Festival finished Sunday. Seven of the films screened were Indiana Spotlight Films.

Saturday night, over $60,000 in cash prizes were given out, and some of those films were played again on the final day.

Jack Lugar, Indianapolis native and director of "Hellcat," premiered his first feature film at the festival. After his film played, he said the reaction from the audience made all of the long film days worth it.

"It's so great to screen it in Indiana because we have so many friends and family who come to experience it," he said. "To talk to people afterwards and know that the story really touched them emotionally and it created great conversations."

The closing ceremonies were in a sold-out screening of "The Holdovers."
